I Scream, You Scream
Keeping with family tradition, after dinner last night we got ice scream from Dairy Kurl. We made frequent trips there when I was a child, and my mother had her ice cream treats there when she was little, too. It’s a local institution, and I’m glad it’s still around for my kids to enjoy.

A Small Dinner Date
Amelia will be my dinner date this evening. Her father is at a friend’s bachelor party, so tonight is a girl’s night out. We will be meeting my sister and niece for dinner, too. Amelia insisted on wearing a dress, so we picked this adorable lilac one from her closet. The dress is from Gymboree with a Parisian city print on it. It’s one of my favorites.

Swoon
I’ve been thinking about this piece of furniture ever since I first saw it earlier this week while out thrifting. My mom surprised me today by showing up with it strapped to her car, and told me it was an early wedding present. I absolutely adore it, and can’t wait to fill it’s shelves with some of my favorite things. It even has a bar, you can see it open in the second...

Owl Valentine Treats
The moment I found these, I knew I wanted to make some for Amelia’s school Valentine’s Day party. Easy to make, and so freakin’ cute.

Thrifty is Nifty →
I didn’t want to put too many thrifting posts on this blog, but I’ve been on a roll lately, so I’ve started putting more posts on my other Tumblr, which has been neglected.
Check it out.

{Vinyl Thursday} Los Carabelas
I am going to try and make this a weekly feature on my blog. I have an AMAZING collection of vinyl. I started collecting it as a teenager, and never stopped. I know there are lots of you that share my love of vinyl, so I thought you might enjoy a peek into my collection. This one is a recent find. What drew me to it at first, was that is was signed by all three musicians.

{Vintage Mama} My Etsy Shop
Here are a few of the vintage pieces I found yesterday. I will take more photos and exact measurements, and put them in my Etsy shop this weekend. If you are interested in any of these, you can email me at modernstarr@gmail.com. I will post a link to my shop when it is updated.
60’s navy trench coat with white piping.
A 60’s nurse uniform that would make a great mod dress.

Mama Loves Thrifting
A vintage train case. The interior is yellow!
A new-to-me pair of navy polka dot flats.
A glass boot mug to use on the candy table at my wedding reception.
A new-to-me polka dot blouse with bow. A strong contender for our Valentine’s Date.
This morning I was able to spend about an hour thrifting. What a luxury for me! Amelia was at preschool, and Maggie took her morning nap in...

{Tumblr Tuesday}- The Team Mandy
This week I am recommending The Team Mandy. I was already a daily reader of Mandy’s other blog, Harper’s Happenings, when I discovered she had recently started a Tumblr blog, too. Her daughter, Harper, is seriously one of the cutest little girls I have ever seen.
Mandy shares my love of thrifting & noodles, and has a great sense of humor. I find myself laughing out loud...

A New Favorite Toy
Amelia loves fashion! Dressing up in her play clothes, dressing her Barbies, and today, she insisted on picking out her school outfit for the first time. I recently found this toy by Circo at Target, and knew she’d love it. I was right. It is magnetic, made from wood, and comes with several different outfit choices. She plays with it every day.

A Stack of Thrifted Goodness
I didn’t get my love of thrifting from the wind. My mother is a master thrifter, yard saler, and all around deal finder. She spent 3 hours at a thrift store last Sunday, WOW, and brought back a stack of great books for my girls. Here are a few of our favorites.
I hope you are reading to your children every day, too!

Amelia wears a clip in her hair every day to keep it out of her face. I recently ordered these two adorable clips from Tumpus Creations. The heart will come personalized with Amelia’s initial, and will go perfectly with her Valentine’s Day outfit.

Colin's Yo Gabba Gabba 2nd Birthday Party
An old friend of mine posted these photos from her son’s recent 2nd birthday party on Facebook. I was so impressed!! She made all of the cakes, and did you notice the spread that looks like DJ Lance’s hat? Awesome! Looks like the birthday boy had a GREAT day. Thanks, Jennifer, for letting me share.

Shapes are More Fun
One thing I’ve recently learned, is if Amelia’s food is in the shape of something fun, she will eat it. Just this morning she had heart shaped toast. She was such a great eater for so long that it really surprised me when she became this picky eater who can’t seem to finish a plate of food. So, I had to get creative.
Here are a few of my favorite sandwich cutters.

The Letter O
Each week Amelia’s preschool class focuses on a new letter of the alphabet. I have decided to play along. Every week I will list some of my favorite things that start with the corresponding letter.

Amelia's Fun & Healthy Lunch
Whenever possible, I try to get Amelia to help with making her meals. I find that she is more likely to eat these meals if she has a hand in preparing them. Today for lunch she made her own mini pizzas. This is a fast, healthy, and easy meal for your toddler to make. What you’ll need: marinara sauce, whole wheat english muffins, and shredded mozzarella cheese. If you can get some veggies on...

Oh Happy Day!
I have been meaning to write a proper update on my Get Fit for 2011 journey all week. I am inspired to write today because I had a huge weight loss difference from yesterday’s weigh-in. As of yesterday, I was down 9 pounds, which is awesome, but it seemed I had hit a plateau. I blamed it on the margaritas and fried food I indulged in this past Saturday on our date night dinner. I weighed...

Love is in the Air
I put up a few decorations for Valentine’s Day. I have always loved this holiday. I think it’s the hearts and all the pink & red color that gets me. Amelia made the door tag, I think it turned out so sweet. Looking forward to Amelia’s school Valentine’s Day party, a wedding that weekend for some of our best friends, and making heart shaped pancakes for the...

Inspiration for Maggie's First Birthday
I like to get started early when planning an event, that way I don’t feel stressed doing everything last minute. I think I’ve decided on a woodland creature theme for Maggie’s first birthday in May. Think owls, birds, deer, foxes, etc.
Here are some things that are currently inspiring me.

Maggie, 8 Months Old
Wow, 8 months have flown by! Miss Maggie is such a big girl now. As I recently posted she just cut her first tooth. She is also getting up and rocking on all fours, scooting on her belly, and pulling up on her knees. She sleeps a solid 11-12 hours at night, and still takes about an hour morning nap, and an hour afternoon nap. I’ve recently added yogurt to her diet, along with a...

One of my resolutions for 2011 is to stay positive. So, instead of complaining about the cold weather, I’m going to make a list of things I love about this time of year.
The fruit on my citrus trees is ready to eat! Strawberries are in season, too.
Hot chocolate
More arts and crafts with Amelia because we can’t play outside.
Not having to shave my legs everyday because I’m...
