We just got back from a super fun long weekend in Orlando. We stayed at the brand new Universal property Cabana Bay Beach Resort. Let me start by saying, that we all agreed this is our very favorite Orlando hotel, and you all know that we’ve stayed at dozens of resorts in Orlando. The retro theming throughout the hotel had me swooning the entire time! Vo5 toiletries, mid century furniture, and oh the vintage fonts!

The kids loved the two pools. The pool off the main lobby had an awesome slide, beach area, and bar. On one afternoon, a cupcake food truck was in this area, and I had the tastiest tiramisu cupcake. The other pool area was right near the Continental building where we stayed, and there was a lazy river complete with waterfalls! How awesome is that? They show movies on a big screen at night in both pool areas, and there are fire pits in both areas, too.

We had one meal at the resorts food court area, and it was delicious and surprisingly affordable. The girls enjoyed a slurpee there one afternoon, complete with a retro ICEE cup. There is also a Starbucks on property, which made me very happy. It too had great retro features. Upstairs from the lobby was a bowling alley, and a place for late night eats. Again, how awesome is that?!

We took a free shuttle from the resort over to Universal Citywalk, and I was impressed at how efficient and quick the experience was. It would be very easy to get to the Universal Parks from this resort.

The rooms were very well appointed with a table and chairs, small fridge, flat screen t.v., comfy beds & pillows, an in room safe, and beautiful terrazzo floors in the bathroom.

I really can’t say enough great things about this resort. We are already planning our next trip back!

I don’t know about you, but for me, summer school break is flying by! We are at about the half way mark, and a few weeks ago, I decided we needed a little weekend getaway before school started. I knew I wanted a fabulous resort with a fun pool, and the Hyatt Regency in Orlando did not disappoint! The Hyatt (formerly the Peabody) is located on International Drive, really close to SeaWorld, and in between the Disney and Universal parks. The property is well maintained, the beds were comfortable, the towels were soft and fluffy, and the girls were very excited about the t.v. in the bathroom! The resort is located right next door to Pointe Orlando, a large shopping/movie/restaurant complex, so we were able to walk there and have dinner at Johnny Rockets. The resort has many restaurants on-site , so if you don’t want to leave the property, you wouldn’t have to. Most of the pictures I have posted are of the girls at the pool, because that is where we spent most of our time. The pool area is PERFECT for children, with it’s zero entry, basketball hoop, and shallow water. There is also a grotto pool with waterfalls (the kids loved jumping through them), and a small wading pool/beach for the really little ones. I enjoyed a couple of yummy frozen cocktails, and felt very relaxed poolside with my happy children. Sometimes it’s just nice to just get away for a weekend, and I know we will definitely be back to stay at the Hyatt Regency Resort.

*this is not a sponsored post, and all opinions are my own. I booked our room through Priceline, and I think we got a great deal on a beautiful resort!

Spring Break

My girls are on spring break this week, so on Monday, we took a quick overnight trip to Orlando. We swam in the chilly hotel pool, had a fabulous dinner out, and spent some time in Downtown Disney. It was a slow paced trip, which we needed because the girls and I are recovering from being sick. Yesterday, we went to see Peabody and Sherman (we loved it!), and this weekend the weather will once again warm up, and I hope there will be a beach trip in our future.

Last weekend, we went to Orlando for a little Christmas fun. We stayed at a fabulous hotel, the Hilton at Bonnet Creek, where it was warm enough to swim in their heated pool. The pool had a giant slide, a lazy river, and at night we watched the The Lion King while we swam!

The next day we went to Gaylord Palms to experience ICE! This year’s theme was Frosty the Snowman, and it was pure magic. We had layered on all of our winter gear, because they keep the convention hall at 9 degrees. There was a slide made from ice that was a great hit with Amelia, and at the end, a beautiful nativity scene. It was a perfect Christmas get away!

Happy Holidays from Florida!
We took the girls to Orlando this weekend, and the high yesterday was 82 degrees. The resort pool was heated, so we spent the entire afternoon and evening swimming! I will post the rest of our photos, and a review on ICE at Gaylord Palms. We were there this morning in our warmest winter clothes. Such a contrast from yesterday’s activities.  High-res

We have just finished one whole year as Disney passholders, and boy, what a year it’s been! We started our passholder journey last September, and we have learned and experienced so much! Our annual passes will be expiring next week, so we spent this weekend trying to get in a few new experiences before we said goodbye to our annual passes.

Here are some of the highlights.

-Amelia was finally tall enough to ride Expedition Everest at the Animal Kingdom. It was a bit scary for me, but my brave girl had a blast!

-We finally got to see the Finding Nemo Musical at AK. This is not to be missed, it is so good.

-We went to a character lunch at The Tusker House in AK. The food was awesome, and the girls got to meet Daisy, Donald, Mickey & Goofy. The orzo pasta, and volcano chocolate cakes were especially yummy.

-The Magic Kingdom was decorated for fall, which is my favorite time at the parks.

-The evil stepmother from Cinderella and her wicked daughters rode the carousel with us today at MK. That was something I had never seen before.

-We were at MK right when they opened this morning and got to see the welcome show, complete with a few of my favorite old songs, and then the train rode in with several Disney characters on it.

-Amelia rode Splash Mountain for the first time at MK. She is already talking about doing it again sometime soon.

-I know there are a lot of people who are upset about the new presence of Starbucks inside the Disney parks, but I, for one was pleased to be able to get my iced vanilla latte this morning at the Main Street Bakery.

I will be back soon with some specific travel tips for the Disney Parks. In the last year we have made 9 separate overnight trips to the Disney Parks, visiting the parks nearly two dozen times, and enjoyed special events such as the Epcot Food and Wine Festival, and Star Wars Weekend at Hollywood Studios.

I loved every minute of it!

We spent three chilly days at Walt Disney World last weekend. We stayed at the lovely Port Orleans Riverside Resort in their new Royal Guest Room. We spent time at Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and the Magic Kingdom. It was a fun weekend filled with roasting marshmallows, horse-drawn carriage rides, Disney movies on the lawn, Ghiradelli hot chocolate, and good quality family time. (Amelia was sprinkled with fairy dust. You can see the sparkle in the up close photo of her in the red jacket. It was a highlight for her)

I was given a cold as a parting gift from Disney, so I am resting today so I can enjoy the eighty degree weather we will see this Sunday.

Spring break is right around the corner for Amelia, and I am dreaming of a trip to the beach.

What are your spring break plans?

Hooray Orlando!

Hooray hotels!

Hooray Downtown Disney!

Hooray for sisters & fruity, overpriced alcoholic drinks!

Hooray for tattoos!

Hooray for pyramids made out of creamers!

Hooray for the Peabody ducks!

I took Amelia to Orlando this weekend, along with my sister & niece for a little fun. We swam in the hotel pool, ate dinner at the Rainforest Cafe, did a little shopping in Downtown Disney, and went to see a parade of ducks. It was nice to have some one on one time with my Amelia. She rarely gets my full attention these days with her demanding toddler sister taking up much of my time. I hope you all are enjoying this long weekend, and the unofficial start to summer!

Our Orlando Holiday Weekend of Fun

I booked a holiday getaway for my little family this past weekend in Orlando as an early Christmas present. We stayed at a lovely hotel Saturday night, spent the evening at Downtown Disney, had dinner at the Rainforest  Cafe, and went to Sea World yesterday. Everything was decorated for the holidays, and it was exactly what we needed. I feel relaxed and ready to take on the rest of this hectic month.
