Einstein

Two weeks ago, we rescued a little three year old chihuahua named Einstein. He was in pretty bad shape when we got him. Einstein was underweight, had some fur missing, his nails were very overgrown, and he was *ahem* stinky. After a bath, nail trim, and a big meal, we could already see him perking up. Now, two weeks later, he is a different dog. I am so happy we made room in our home and our hearts for this sweet little pup.

This weekend we celebrated Maggie’s fourth birthday with family & friends at a favorite park. Maggie requested a Littlest Pet Shop party, and I was happy to make her birthday wishes come true. My mom made the beautiful pull-apart cupcake cake, and I put together a pet shop buffet, with cheese for the mice, carrots for the bunnies, goldfish for the kitties, and chex mix in a dog bowl for the puppies. The weather was gorgeous, and everyone was happy to be together enjoying the warm sunshine on our shoulders. My sweet Maggie had a super fun day, and that makes my mama heart happy.

Happy Valentine’s Day

I hope everyone is having a lovely day. My girls both have Valentine’s Day parties at their schools, and were very excited to take their cards in to class today. I baked a chocolate cake for the occasion, and look forward to a quiet night at home with my husband and kids. I think pizza and DVD rentals are in order.

I hope you enjoyed a lovely Thanksgiving with family and friends. Our day was pretty great. We started the day with doughnuts and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, we lazed about in the afternoon watching movies, and I spent some time in the kitchen getting the food ready. Can I just say that peeling potatoes is not my favorite. Anyway, the food was delicious, and we all had a great time laughing and telling stories from years past. The girls got to wear their new xmas pajamas, and we watched Charlie Brown’s Thanksgiving, and are now watching Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The day was filled with tradition and love, and I have so very much to be thankful for!

p.s. I have finally started an Instagram account. I can be found @modernmommyblog.

This morning while scrolling though my Facebook feed, I was reminded of how uncertain life can be sometimes. A second cousin of mine passed away recently, and today would have been her 36th birthday. I will be 36 in three weeks. It inspired me to blow off my to-do list, keep Amelia home from preschool, and head out to the beach.

I didn’t know this family member really well, but I like to think today was a little tribute to her. My girls and I celebrated life & love today, and I although I can’t thank her for the inspiration, I hope she is smiling down on us in heaven.

Everything’s Coming Up Roses

This is the valentine Amelia chose to give to her school pals. You can find them over at Tiny Prints.

My new heart dress for my Valentine date with the mister. You can find it at Old Navy.

Valentine’s Day card I got for my husband. You can find it here.

(Don’t worry, he rarely reads my blog, so it won’t ruin the surprise)

I am looking forward to Valentine’s Day next week. Amelia has a party at school that I am helping with, and the hubs and I have a date planned, lunch and visit to a museum exhibit we both really want to see.

A Love-ly Lunch

Today, I surprised the girls with a special Valentine’s Day themed lunch. I found the cutest heart shaped shortbread cookies with strawberry jam at the store this week, and had the idea to put together a special lunch a little early, since Amelia will have her school party next week.

The girls ate heart shaped peanut butter sandwiches, pretzels (which look like hearts to me), strawberries cut in to hearts, and raspberry lemonade. It made them both happy, and they were excited to drink out of my vintage tea cups, too.

I had purchased them each a book as a Valentine’s Day gift, and decided to let them open up their presents today. I bought Romeo & Juliet: A BabyLit Counting Primer (BabyLit Books) for Maggie, and Everybody Bonjours! for Amelia.

What special plans do you have for your kiddos this Valentine’s Day?
