Rainy Days are for Blogging

It’s pouring rain here in sunny Florida this morning, and I don’t mind a bit. I’m hoping the rain will wash away some of the pollen that is covering everything, including my newly washed car.

I am happy to see the month of March. It’s gonna be a fun month, with lots to look forward to. I have a baby shower & a bridal shower this weekend for two dear friends. We have also booked a trip to Orlando with the kids later this month, and our engagement photo shoot is next weekend.

I am working on getting everyone healthy this week. Both Amelia and Maggie came down with colds over a week ago, and Maggie’s turned into a sinus infection. I can’t tell if I have a cold myself, or seasonal allergies. I went to bed at 9:30 last night, and feel better today, so I am going to focus on sleep this week.

*A quick update on my weight. I am down 20 pounds, half way to my goal of 40 by October. I haven’t taken many photos, so I will share some pictures from our engagement shoot next weekend.

Happy March everyone!

My Weight Loss=One Maggie

That’s right. Tuesday, Maggie had her 9 month check-up, and she weighed 18 pounds 10 ounces. My total weight loss since the beginning of January is 18.5 pounds.

I am really happy with my progress so far, but feel myself getting a little lazy about it all. The amount of times I’ve exercised….one time. Pathetic. I know. This morning after I put Maggie down for her morning nap, I put on my trainers, and got my butt on the elliptical. Let’s hope some kind of pattern emerges here.

Here are a few of my favorite items that have made my new life style a little easier.

Giving up regular soda was one of the best things I’ve done. I still crave a little fizzy every now and then, and diet Mug root beer tastes really good with zero calories.

One of my favorite lunches, there are only 200 calories in 3 rolls. I dip them in a little bit of salsa. Yum.

A seriously delicious soup.

I am happy to report that there are lots and lots of healthy and quick choices for busy moms who are trying to eat better. I find that if I keep my house stocked with healthy options I can grab on the go, I don’t even have to think about it.

Weight Loss & Photo Shoot

So, month one of my personal transformation journey is done, and as of today I am down 14 pounds. I am really proud of this, but I’m ready to take it to the next level. I will be starting an exercise routine today. No more excuses. I am really motivated to take off another 14 pounds this month. I just booked an engagement photo shoot with our wedding photographer for the second week in March, even though we’ve been engaged for almost a year now. I was 6 months pregnant when Beau proposed, so we put off a photo shoot until now.

We are going to do the shoot at our home. I am the new owner of a vintage red Schwinn tandem bike, and I’m super excited to use it as a prop for our photo shoot.

(I love the older couple in this photo)

I just ordered this shirt from Old Navy to wear for the shoot. Maybe you can start to see my vision for it?

Looking forward to being creative with this. Think tire swing, vinyl, vintage furniture, and bicycle built for two. It’s going to be good.

Oh Happy Day!

I have been meaning to write a proper update on my Get Fit for 2011 journey all week. I am inspired to write today because I had a huge weight loss difference from yesterday’s weigh-in. As of yesterday, I was down 9 pounds, which is awesome, but it seemed I had hit a plateau. I blamed it on the margaritas and fried food I indulged in this past Saturday on our date night dinner. I  weighed myself this morning, and I’m down a total of 11.5 pounds. Yipee!

I promised to post before/after photos of myself once I had lost 10 pounds, and will have Beau take some pictures of me this weekend so you can see the difference. My t-shirts & underwear fit better, and I have worn 2 pairs of jeans this week that I couldn’t even button at the beginning of the month. I am so proud of myself, and physically feel better. Energy levels are higher, and my knee even stopped hurting.

It has not always been easy to eat the right thing. I still find myself craving junk from time to time. The key has been to keep the house stocked with healthy & tasty foods that are easy for me to grab with my hectic lifestyle.

I still have not started an exercise routine, but I have been walking Amelia to preschool most mornings which is a start. I have found every excuse in the book not to get on the elliptical machine, and it’s time to just do it already.

A Better Version of Me

It’s time to get real. I am chubby. I’m still carrying around the extra pounds from 2 pregnancies in 3 years. I gained around 35 pounds with Amelia, and only lost about 10 of that before I got pregnant with Maggie. Then I gained some more weight with that pregnancy, and I now I have 40 pounds I want to lose.

I am well on my way people. I’ve lost 4 pounds already this week. Holla.

Here is what I’m doing.

  • Drinking lots of water. I also cut out soda, and if I’m not drinking water, I am drinking Crystal Light, or on occasion, juice.
  • I eat the majority of my carbs before lunch. I love bread, and won’t deny myself that. I have toast, cereal or a bagel for breakfast most days
  • I eat a Lean Cuisine for lunch. They taste good, are fast and easy,(a necessity for me), and are low in calories.
  • I snack between meals. Maybe a handful of nuts, popcorn, or peanut butter crackers.
  • For sweet cravings I eat fruit or a Skinny Cow ice cream treat.
  • At night I cook a sensible dinner, and make sure my portions aren’t too big. Also, I don’t eat after dinner. I find that brushing my teeth after I eat encourages this.

Here are the things that are currently inspiring me.

  • A closet full of clothes that I can’t wear.
  • My October wedding.
  • My children. I want to be a fit and more active mother.
  • My knee. It hurts, and I am sure weight loss will help this.
  • A honeymoon cruise where I hope to live in my swimsuit.
  • Other bloggers who are successful with their weight loss. Here is one that has been really inspiring me lately; The Doe or the Deer.

I have been using Fit Day, to track my weight loss. It’s free to use.

I will be sharing my weight loss journey with you weekly. I know that many woman struggle with their weight after their babies are born, and I find comfort in the fact that there are many woman like me on this very same journey.

Many of the blogs I read have these beautiful thin woman, who after their pregnancy are magically thin again. I know this is not the norm, so I am glad to show the other side of the coin.

I will start posting before/after pictures once I’ve made some real progress. I plan to add exercise to my routine next week. I have an elliptical machine at home, so I have no excuse.

If you have a plan to get healthy this year, I’d love to hear about it!

*Update: Thanks for all the notes of encouragement!!
